About PALUMBO FAMILY VINEYARDS

A friendly and laid back hidden gem, down a side road in wine country, is family-owned Palumbo Family Vineyards and Winery. This boutique winery also happens to pour some of the best red wine in Temecula.

Adjacent to the family home, Palumbo might also just be the tiniest tasting room in Temecula. There’s a small bar for tastings, a shelf with bottles of olive oil, tall cocktail table or two and that’s about it! You’ll find either a member of the family or their neighbor pouring wines. Outside there’s a generous patio. It’s a charming spot for picnicking and taking in their hilltop view. There’s even a wine window that opens back into the tasting room.

Palumbo crafts small-batch French varieties that spend a minimum of 25 months in French oak barrels. Most spend 30 months, and they age their wines a minimum of 5 years before releasing. Must-try wines are the 2019 Cabernet Franc, 2018 Estate Tre Fratelli Meritage, and 2019 Syrah. The 2019 Sangiovese, too. Really, they’re all good.

I love this line from their website about Nick Palumbo who started is winery in 1998, “With Sicilian ancestry on one side and Illinois farming on the other, Nicholas was genetically programmed and destined to be a vintner.” His son is also now a winemaker. Read the rest here.
