4 Spots to Sip Poolside, No Overnight Stay Required

You don’t need to be a hotel guest to spend a relaxing summer day in Temecula sipping by the pool.

A pool with cabanas.

There are two wineries in Temecula Valley where you can sip poolside, a swim-up bar at the local casino, and, at the only spa in wine country, you can lounge by the pool with a beverage of your choice. Of course there are mocktails and non-alcoholic options at most of these locations too, so bring a friend and pack your swimsuit.

The Cove at Pechanga Resort Casino

The Cove at Pechanga Resort Casino is a 4.5-acre pool with cabanas, loungers, day beds, whirlpool, and family areas. Late spring, the swim-up bar opens on weekends, a DJ plays, and the swim-up bar opens, and servers make their way around to lounge chairs offering drinks and menu items from the pool grill. The Cove is nestled against the valley hills and Pechanga’s golf-course, and the lounge chairs all line up to make the most of the view.

The swim-up bar is a local favorite, with padded stools surrounding the bar, plus the whole area is covered, making it a pretty fun spot to spend time. Pool access is included with hotel or spa reservations, but there are also day passes available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Cove is open daily has a family friendly area with waterslides, but the whirlpool and main pool with swim up bar is 21+. Guests under 18 must be supervised by an adult.

Bottaia Winery’s Seasonal Pool

The seasonal pool at Bottaia Winery is open from May through September. The beautiful pool stretches out into the vineyard, where you can rent cabanas, lounge chairs, and “cabines” (small changing rooms) by the day or half day. There’s a pool café with a light menu of tacos, sandwiches, salads, and flatbreads, with a full bar serving cocktails, wine, and beer. A winery pool sounded like a strange concept at first, but being surrounded by vineyards and valley hills while sitting poolside is a pretty great experience. Plus, the whole place is stunning. It was designed after beach resorts in Italy, and the location really is transporting.

Pool guests can have food brought to them at their lounger or cabana, but if you’re after the vibe of Bottaia’s pool but not interested in swimming, the café has tables for walk-ins, though reservations are recommended.

The pool is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 am to 6 pm, and is family friendly, the winery is not.

The Spa Pool at South Coast Winery Resort & Spa

The GrapeSeed Spa at South Coast Winery Resort & Spa, a hotel stay, is not required to make an appointment. The spa is surrounded by vineyards and flora that separate it from the rest of the resort. It’s open daily for facial, massage, and nail treatments, and the pool and outdoor whirlpool are included with any treatment. A glass of wine or non-alcoholic beverage is included with every treatment, so enjoy your pampering, then go relax by the wine country pool. The spa has a light menu of salads, charcuterie, and sandwiches too. Day passes are also available on weekdays, for guests not interested in treatments.

The spa is open daily. Spa visits are by appointment only, and guests must be 18 or over.

Voux Wines

Wine tasting at Voux Wines is appointment only. It’s a winery, not a resort or spa, so there is wine tasting only, no swimming, and no food. The pool seems to be for mood only. But it works. There are loungers where you can take your glass of some of the best French-style wines in the valley, especially the Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc if we’re talking pool wines, and end your day in wine country gazing across the pool at peaceful rolling hills, grapevines, and citrus groves.

Voux Wines is 21+ and by reservation only, Friday through Sunday.
