3 Winery Itinerary:
South Coast Winery
Ponte Winery
Wiens Cellars
Ponte Winery and South Coast Winery are separated only by a large parking lot, making these two Temecula wineries an obvious choice for a walkable day out. Wiens is just a short stroll through a vineyard away from Ponte.

The times listed below are just suggestions to help you plan your day.
11 am — Begin your day at South Coast Winery for a tasting. On the weekends, it’s best to visit their tasting room early to avoid the crowds. For a more up close look at the winemaking process, book a production tour and be treated to some of their more interesting wines as well.

1 pm — Next, head off to Ponte Winery for a tasting and lunch at their winery restaurant. They have some of our favorite white wines in Temecula. The restaurant is a year-round outdoor dining venue set in a beautiful garden behind the tasting room. Make restaurant reservations ahead of time here. Ponte Vineyard Inn is also our top pick for Temecula winery hotels if you’re looking for a place to stay.

3 pm — For your third tasting, take a stroll through the vineyard over to Wiens Cellars. When you exit Ponte’s tasting room, head to the right and go through the parking lot until you reach the vineyard. You’ll see a small “Pedestrian and Carriages Only” sign at the front of the pathway. The path isn’t paved, so choose your shoes accordingly. At Wiens, you can taste inside at the bar, or outside on the patio where there’s usually live music on the weekends. They have a very large tasting list, but their servers can expertly guide you to the right choices.

For dinner, the Cellar Bar at Ponte Vineyard Inn is a lot of fun, with live music on weekends and elevated bar fare. The Vineyard Rose at South Coast Winery has a large dining room and a menu of classic California cuisine.
2 Winery Itinerary:
Chapin Family Vineyards
Doffo Winery
This two-stop itinerary couldn’t be easier; the wineries are directly across a small road from each other. Plus, Chapin and Doffo are both on our list of top recommended wineries in Temecula.

1 pm — Start at Chapin Family Vineyards, where they have seated tastings out on the patio. There’s a gorgeous view of the vineyard with low rolling hills in the distance. On weekends, Chapin hosts a mobile brick oven pizza chef that will bring your made-to-order pizza to your table. The winery has a large tasting list, but where they shine is with their French red varieties. Top picks include their 2023 Eclipse, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, 2022 Petit Sirah, and 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. Their Italian-style Aglianico is also wonderful.

3 pm — Later in the afternoon, stroll across the way to Doffo Winery for a tasting, or maybe just buy a bottle to share — the 2024 Vermentino or 2022 Zinfandel are both terrific options. Then head out to the tables on the front lawn where you can catch a view just as great as Chapin’s and watch the sun go down. Be sure to stroll around and take a peek at Marcelo Doffo’s collection of vintage European motorcycles that decorate the property.

When it’s time for dinner, a few terrific winery restaurants are a short Uber away. Domenico’s Italian Chophouse at Truffle Pig Winery is a great choice.
2 Winery Itinerary:
Cougar Winery
Frangipani Winery
High up on the De Portola Wine trail, these wineries both offer gorgeous views of vineyards, valley hills, and nearby ranches.

1 pm — Ride share to Cougar Winery, where you can sip your wine while lounging in an Adirondack chair at the edge of the vineyard. Cougar specializes in Italian varietals, including some rarely seen in the United States like Negroamaro, Teroldego, and Falanghina. When hunger strikes, order a couple of sandwiches or a salad — or maybe some spicy meatballs and bruschetta — from the winery’s on-site Italian deli. They’ll deliver it all to wherever you’re seated.
3 pm — When it’s time to move on, gather your group and head to the far right edge of Cougar’s patio, where there’s a small dirt path that winds across to Frangipani Estate Winery. The entrance is marked by a white horse fence. It’s a very short walk, but the ground is uneven, so consider this when planning your footwear. Red wine drinkers should give the Cabernet Franc a try, it’s winemaker Nick Molina’s favorite, and mine too from a recent tasting. It’s rich with flavors of blueberry and cocoa.

At Frangipani Winery, guests enjoy patio wine service and spectacular vineyard views. You can also order from the Oaky Grape Grill menu of sandwiches, burgers, salads, and a few shareable plates. Their “flagship” wine is the Sangiovese, which drinks smoothly with flavors of cherry and vanilla.
If, at this point, you’re ready for dinner, the Restaurant at Leoness is just a short ride away. If not, head into Old Town and visit one of the tasting rooms or wine lounges, then choose one of our favorite romantic spots for dinner.
